The following letter is the response to the Concerned Permit Holders in the area from the New Brunswick Federation of Snowmobile Clubs to the motion passed by the Board of Directors of the South Eastern New Brunswick Snowmobilers Association Inc. at their February Board meeting. It is being posted here for the information of the membership and the general public.

Re: Grooming / Maintaining NBFSC Provincial Trail #34, North of the Peticodiac River, 2009

As a result of the realignment of snowmobile trail responsibilities in the region identified as “north of the Peticodiac River” the NBFSC Board of Directors is considering two options for the 2008-2009 season. Therefore the first purpose of this letter is to outline the NBFSC Director’s decisions (two motions) made at their winter, March 15th Board of Directors meeting. The second purpose is to ask you to consider the second of the two options and respond if you have an interest in the concept proposed.

The NBFSC has prepared three letters. The first letter is addressed to the SENBSA, Member Club #20 of the NBFSC. The second letter is addressed to the Snowmobile Club St. Antoine, Member Club #15. This is the third letter, being sent to your attention.

Our Zone 8 and Zone 6 Directors have identified you as potentially “representing the concerned Trail Permit holders of Moncton North”. Our Board’s question is, is there a group who may have interest in making application to the NBFSC to form a new Snowmobile Club in the region identified as “north of the Peticodiac River”?

The NBFSC’s Board’s priority is NBFSC Trail #34; this link must be secured in 2009 to enable snowmobilers to enter and exit Zone 8 by means of a NBFSC trail. Currently NBFSC #34 is the only snowmobile trail, which links Zone 8 with rest of the province, NBFSC Zones 1 through 7. Thus the balance of this letter and the separate, however similar letters to the parties outlined, will explain the two viable options that the NBFSC understand we have.

1. Option One: Our St. Antoine SC accept to maintain and groom the historical NBFSC Provincial Trail #34 from the north side (bank) of the Peticodiac River to the McLaughlin Road, north of Magnetic Hill, Moncton.

2. Option Two: The NBFSC Board of Directors will consider accepting and approving the formation of a new NBFSC Member Club. The primary and first priority of a new member club would be the maintenance and grooming of a trail connection from the north side of the Peticodiac River to the Provincial Trail system maintained and groomed by our member club #15, St. Antoine SC.

There are two additional points to be understood in finding a long-term solution to this issue It is understood that both current member clubs are going to continue to maintain and groom their historical sections of NBFSC Provincial Trail #34. SENBSA will continue to maintain and groom #34 to the south bank of the Peticodiac River and St. Antoine will continue to maintain and groom #34 north of the McLaughlin Road. Second point, SENBSA (club) expect to lose trail permit sales from their decision to not groom north of the Peticodiac River in 2009. Therefore while there can be no guarantees it is expected that snowmobilers in the region effected may purchase their future trail permits from the next available option, either the St. Antoine SC or a new Federation Member Club.

Any questions you have regarding the Board of Directors proposed option to form a new member club may be directed to myself at ross@nb.aibn.com or 506-447-1258. You may also contact our President, Mr. Leon Bourque at leonb@nb.sympatico.ca .

Ross Antworth,

King of the Mountain : a Success Once More
Posted on 02 Apr 2008

The 9th running of the King of the Mountain can be described as the best yet. Sunny skies and great temperatures greeted racers and fans alike this past Saturday, as over 200 entries and over 1000 spectators took in the spectacle at Poley Mountain. Event Chairman Earl Doucette has heard nothing but great comments and it seems fun was had by all. The excellent conditions included the trails leading to Poley and many fans were able to snowmobile to the Mountain from all over the Highlands.

The snow was very hard packed, so the hill seemed to stay in great condition most of the day. The running order was reversed this year, starting with the 900 + class and working down to the 500 cc class. The King of the Mountain (Open) class was run earlier and was over by 5:30PM. The winner of the King of the Mountain class which is 100% payback, picked up $530.00 this year, as there was over fifty entries in this class. Riders came from all three Maritime Provinces as well as the state of Maine.

Race results are as follows:

King of the Mountain - Jean Fabien Arsenault-Balmoral NB. 2nd Craig Rogers - Truro, NS 3rd Donald Richards-PEI

900 Class - 1st- Fred Pellitier-Dundee NB, 2nd-Adrien Dobson-Westchester NS, 3rd-Herve Auclair-Dieppe, NB.

800 Class - 1st-Fred Pellitier-Dundee NB, 2nd Jean Fabien Arsenault-Balmoral NB, 3rd-Donald Richards-PEI.

700 Class - 1st JeanFabien Arsenault-Balmoral NB, 2nd Donald Richards-PEI, 3rd Craig Rogers Truro NS.

600 Class - 1st-Fred Pellitier-Dundee NB, 2nd Mat Simmonson-Centreville NB 3rd Dirk McCrum- Maine USA .

A big thanks to the committee, the racers, and the fans for another great event!

March 1 - On the Mountain
Posted on 02 Mar 2008

Thanks to all those who made the day at the Clubhouse another great success. There was a good turnout for all the days activities which included a breakfast / brunch, the March monthly meeting, and a steak dinner at supper time. And people turned out in spite of the forecast major storm tormenting us all day and really going strong by evening. March did arrive like a Lion!

Thanks to all who participated and don't forget the Midnight Poker Run scheduled for this coming Saturday.

On the Mountain - March 1/08
Posted on 18 Feb 2008

We are planning for a repeat of last years success...
The best day of sledding on Caledonia Mountain last year was our March 10 combination of events and participants.

On March 1 we have scheduled our monthly March meeting at 12 Noon. There is a promise from President Jim to keep it brief but informative so please feel free to attend.

Preceding the meeting is a Breakfast / Brunch available from 8:30 till 11:30 AM. A little champagne with your eggs???

A fun Fundraising chance at a winning Poker hand is also part of the plan.

And to top it off before you leave the mountain to head home there is a Hot Hot deal on a steak dinner.

Oh yes don't forget that you get to fill in the blanks in this schedule riding the trails around the Clubhouse.

Plan to spend the day - March 1 - on top of the snowmobile world. See you there.

Clubhouse Reno
Posted on 13 Dec 2007

The Club has worked hard to provide a comfortable home away from home for members and their guests to use when snowmobiling in beautiful Albert County. On your next trip by make sure you check out the upgraded washroom facilities. Don McCabe led a team of members and friends and did a complete renovation of the washrooms that includes new floor, ceramic tile, fixtures, paint and trim.

Looks great! Thanks to everyone who contributed.

The Crooked Creek Story
Posted on 10 Sep 2007

Bridge Closed - Permanently.

The last three seasons have been marked by a significant problem at the Crooked Creek Bridge on the Canada Hill Trail #28. This bridge was originally donated to the snowmobile club by members and friends of our organization. The bridge is in need of maintenance and repair and in order to do it the club requires permission from the landowner and from the various Provincial bureaucrats that from time to time we must deal with. Further - many provincial departments want to deal with only the Federation staff in Woodstock which is another level of complcation.

After more than two years of not getting permission from the Province of NB ...the landowner has made his decision. We no longer have access to the site on his privatre land.

Bridge Closed - Permanently.

The Board of Directors of SENBSA respectfully request that ALL our members and friends immediately abandon this part of the trail system and respect the landowners decision and his rights.

Bridge Closed - Permanently.

Fred Pellitier - 2007 King of the Mountain
Posted on 02 Apr 2007

It was a great (albeit long) day on Poley Mountain!

The 2007 edition of the King of the Mountain event saw total of 232 entries on this beautiful sunny day. A crowd of almost 1000 fans watched close racing in all classes.

Fred Pellitier of Northern New Brunswick was the big winner as he rode his F-7 Arctic Cat to wins in the 700, 800, 900, and open - "King of the Mountain". Along with the biggest trophy of the day Fred picked up $530.00 for his win in the open class. Results were as follows:

500 class: Robert Allain, Charlie Smith, Trevor Bezanson
600 class: Charlie Smith, Mike Simonson, Jamie Hardy
700 class: Fred Pellitier, Greg Hannon, Matt Simonson
800 class: Fred Pellitier, Craig Duncan, Clifford Chiasson
900 class: Fred Pellitier, Alan Russell, Leonard Jewers
Open class: King of the Mountain: Fred Pellitier, Mat Simonson, Art MacNeil
Queen of the Mountain: Melissa Mallette, Mallory Mallette, Kelsey Weston

It should be noted that as the track got rougher, the motocross riders came to the front, as all the class winners (except for the ladies class) are regular motocross riders. As well and the Simonson brothers from Centerville NB (Team Redneck Racing) are regulars on the Atlantic Region Motocross Circuit.

Thanks to all who participated in all the various roles for this very successful day.

Earl Doucette
Event Chairman

Kent Hills Wind Farm
Posted on 27 Feb 2007

We are soon going to have a new neighbour on the 'Mountain' .... TransAlta Wind and NBPower are in the startup phase of a large Windmill electricity generation project which will be situated smack dab in the middle of our trail system.

The Club and TransAlta have done a lot of research and have worked out some solutions to the areas where we might have conflicts between trails and access roads. The public meeting Feb 28 provided a good oportunity for everyone to meet and see what the project was about and the Club has met twice with senior TransAlta Representatives.

Their website provides a good look at the project known as the Kent Hills Wind Farm. Have a look at:
