April 10 Update
Posted on 10 Apr 2008

The trails are going / disappearing very fast.

The Highlands have some sledding left in them yet.
There was a pick-up stuck on 31 near Teahans Corner yesterday so all forms of 'traffic' are trying to use the trails. Please be cautious.

April 15 is the date that our exclusive use of the trails on Crown Land expires.

Thanks to all those who have made this a great season. Thanks especially to the guy who delivered the snow!

April 6 Update
Posted on 06 Apr 2008

Groomers were out on the Mountain Thursday and Hillsborough Friday and with light traffic many trail are still in nice condition. The evenings and very early mornings are a great time to see some country you never explore through the rest of the season.
We can lose them fast but they are not gone yet ...

April 4 Update
Posted on 04 Apr 2008

Spring has sprung!

Trails in the Highlands are in good spring condition.

All Ice over water is to be considered very unsafe.

Snow in the forecast tonight will provide the lube that's needed to run on the icey trails.

April 1/2 Update
Posted on 01 Apr 2008

It is April and here comes the first shower. The trails are holding in the Highlands and there is excellent spring riding. We'll update later in the week if and when more grooming will take place.

March 28 Update
Posted on 28 Mar 2008

Trails from Salisbury to Alma have been perfected again and are ready for the weekend. All trails lead to Poley Mountain this weekend.

Caution - the ATV traffic is becoming a serious problem in the Nixon / Hardscrabble areas.

Great news - the Enforcement Officers have made their arrival to the area known. Make sure you have your paperwork in order and let's see how the freeloaders make out now.

March 24 Update
Posted on 24 Mar 2008

Most trails remain in great condition. The forecast for the week ahead is quite positive. Plans are to re-groom everything beginning Tuesday concentrating on 34 & 31.

Trails will be dressed up again on Friday to be ready for the heavy traffic expected to be heading to the King of the Mountain Hillclimb at Poley Mt.

Caution must be exercised as spring-like conditions are the rule not the exception.

March18/19 Update
Posted on 18 Mar 2008

The groomers are on the trail late this afternoon whipping Riverview to Alma back into shape.
Cautions: Open water on the Riverview powerline, the detour near Nixon road has been changed again to get out of the open water. The snow is sparse in the Alma area but still passable.
Otherwise there are excellent spring conditions throughout the Highlands.

March 13 Update
Posted on 13 Mar 2008

The 34 Trail on the North side was groomed today from Salisbury Road to McLaughlin.
Two groomers are working tonight in New Ireland and Hillsborough.
Reports indicate low snow conditions near Alma.
The 22 Loop and all its washouts through Livingstone Hills will be done on Friday.

Time to be extra cautious again of the ice conditions on Lake Petitcodiac.

Overall trails are in good to very good spring-like condition.

March 11 Update
Posted on 11 Mar 2008

Trails from Riverview -32- & Lake Petitcodiac -34- to Caledonia Mountain and Forty Five Rd -30- to New Ireland -31, 34, & 28 - have all been groomed and are in very good condition. Water is running hard enough that several snow bridges cannot be rebuilt and require riding through the water.
Please be cautious.

March 5/6 Update
Posted on 05 Mar 2008

The Grooming Committee is monitoring the trails and the forecasts to get back on the trails as soon as possible. Stay tuned ...

Groomers are heading back out today so please be cautious. There has been a fair amount of rain and freezing rain Wednesday and Wednesday night and the snowbridges are the weak points of the trail system.

The weekend forecast is for more of the same.

NBPower Construction has plowed 34 North of Nixon Road (Synton Lane) and will be increasing their use of this road. We will be detouring through the old trail along Nixon to the Railbed and sharing with the ATV Trail.

March 1 / 2 Update
Posted on 02 Mar 2008

Trails were coming back into shape - washout-wise - with this weeks grooming. Trail reports for the bulk of the system were very good to excellent.

All that will be under another 20 to 30 cm falling now. The Grooming Committee is monitoring all the forecasts and will be on the trails as soon as the precipitation stops and the temperatures are low enough. (Forecasts are calling for some mild days this week) Beware of major drifting.

Feb 28 Update
Posted on 28 Feb 2008

Grooming is going full tilt to get the trails back into excellent shape for the weekend. Concentrating on 23, 31, and 34 first. We will be running around the clock so please be cautious.

Feb 21 Update
Posted on 21 Feb 2008

Repairs have been made to Trail 34 from Nixon Road to New Ireland Rd.

Expect poor conditions in some areas and be cautious that some of the repairs may wash out again.

Morrisey Road has a major washout that is now passable with caution.

Repairs and grooming are ongoing all weekend so please be careful

Feb 21 Update
Posted on 21 Feb 2008

Crews are beginning the rebuilding process at the First Sawdust Pile on Trail 34. The Culvert there was picked out of the road and washed downstream a considerable distance. Trail 34 in this area and through Don's Diner is a disaster.
Main Trail is being given priority and grooming won't happen until we get the trail connected again.

Please report any washouts you find to the Clubhouse 734-3455 or info@senbsa.com

Contact us also if you have some time to volunteer and help out.

Feb 20 Update
Posted on 20 Feb 2008

2 PM We have members out there inspecting the trail system and the news is not good.

There are areas of excellent smooth trail between MAJOR washouts and trenches. Some of these washouts are impassable. It is going to be very slow work to rebuild any sections of the trail system as we need crews to pile brush and then move whatever snow is available into the holes to try and build snowbridges.

Consider the trail system CLOSED.

Groomers are not available to rescue people who ignore this advice.

There will be further updates tonight and tomorrow.
