Contrary to our normal grooming regiment, groomers will be out Friday during the day to Trail 31 and throughout Trail 34 where conditions allow. As always attention will be focused on the Caledonia Highlands from Club 20 to Teehan's Corner.
Sledders are asked to be alert while passing by the sugar camp behind the Clubhouse as the maple sugar lines are now in place across the trail. Some work has been done to allow passage under these lines. However, please be careful!

25 FEB 2010
The past 24 hours the groomers have been out on the Caledonia Highlands throughout Barrett Road, Morrisey, Switchback, Tom Downey, and Heart Attack as well as Main Trail #34 from the Clubhouse to Nixon Road.
It appears that a side-by-side ATV has run the main trail from Hillsborough to the Mountain. The Main Trail #34 to Nixon Road has also been suffering from damage caused by ATVs and possibly 4 x 4s. Should anyone know the individuals who may be responsible in these areas, we would kindly ask for your cooperation in ensuring it does not continue. We will be asking Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement to keep extra-close attention to these areas.
Should anyone have any information they wish to share, please feel free to contact any of the Club #20 Members / Directors.
Groomers will continue to be out on the Highlands paying close attention to the Main Trail from the Clubhouse to Teehans Corner in preparation for the Steak Dinner being held on Saturday 27 February 2010 by the Goshen Snowmobile Club.

Last night groomers were out to Caledonia Retreat and to Riverview despite the lack of co-operation from Mother Nature. Groomer will be out Friday night to Teehan's Corner and again later in the weekend if weather permits.
Moncton North has taken a big hit and unfortunately unless colder conditions prevail grooming will be limited.
Trail #34 across the Petitcodiac River is CLOSED.

TRAIL UPDATES |

15 FEB 2010
Moncton Trails for SENBSA Club #20 were groomed late Saturday - early Sunday morning. Caledonia Highlands will be at work tonight and throughout the week in preparation for the weekend and the upcoming Sno-A-Rama event at the Clubhouse.
We apologize to those who may have thought the trails could have been better on the weekend, unfortunately, the human element as well as the groomer element can often times pose a challenge. This past weekend, we had a little bit of both.
I think Club #20 speaks for all when we say pray for more snow and cooler temperatures to ensure good trails for the next few weeks.

05 FEB 2010
Groomers have been out on the Mountain throughout the week. Trail conditions throughout the Caledonia Highlands and into Riverview are excellent! The groomer has been out on the Moncton side through the North River area to Route 126 via Pacific Junction and over to Westmorland Albert.
Please be advised once again, that due to the ongoing work with the Causeway, access on and off the river is very limited.

28 JAN 2010
Trails are now open. Groomers will be out on the Caledonia Highlands tonight and tomorrow. Expect icy conditions and possible washouts.
Even with cold weather, the river crossing between Riverview and Salisbury Road is now not possible due to the ditches which are in place as part of the planned opening of the causeway gates.

27 JAN 2010
Please be advised -- due to the recent weather conditions trails from Caledonia Mountain into Riverview and low-lying areas are CLOSED. Trails throughout the Caledonia Highlands have snow but it is very soft, and we would ask all sledders to please be patient and stay off the trails until colder conditions arrive. Should we be fortunate enough to have the snow that is left freeze on the weekend, there still may be a base for the rest of the season.

12 Jan 2010 trail cond
Sweet Mountain has been groomed today. The groomer should be through to Alma late today or early tomorrow.
North Side News (Moncton Trails)
we are about one light snow away from having the groomer out. the small North River Bridge located between Route 126 and Briggs Cross Road has been completely washed out and it is very likely that grooming operations are done for that area. Unfortunately, there is no alternate route at this time. Stay tuned.

TRAIL UPDATES |

08 JAN 2010
All three groomers have been out and about. Trails have been groomed from Hillsborough, Alma and towards Nixon Road. A lot of brush is down on the trails and Club 20 is working to clear it away. Club 20 would greatly appreciate those willing to help. A tremendous amount of trees need cutting and some areas are a mess, so obviously this will take a lot of time and effort too clear. Please note some areas have logging operations that are still ongoing, but there are a lot of trails open and we hope all of our trails will be in good shape soon.
Once again, anyone who can help with brush cutting is more than welcome and to help out anyway they can.
Call the hotline for more info. 855-3444
Sled Safe! Stay tuned for updates.

Jan 4 Update |
Posted on 04 Jan 2010 |
Good news is the accumulation on the Highlands is way above what fell in Moncton / Salisbury / Riverview / Hillsborough (and we still received at least 20 cms). Or rather there was less of it that fell as rain. Need to let it settle down a bit and hopefully get rid of some of the water and some limited grooming in the right places will give us some great sledding later in the week. There's good sledding up there now!
Forecast still says we are in for about 15 cm more snow by noon tomorrow but nothing colder than -5 till Saturday. We want cold !
|
Jan 3 Update |
Posted on 03 Jan 2010 |
It snowed hard all afternoon and part of the evening Saturday - Then it rained and did it rain. Temps above zero and very warm winds made a real mess of things overnight. Flurries again here on Sunday morning and forecast of at least 10 cm today and lesser amounts tomorrow morning.
It will take time for the water to run off and any cold at all will stiffen the snow and allow limited grooming on the Highlands. Highly unlikely the trails in Moncton and Riverview will be groomable for a while yet.
Make use of our well equipped clubhouse and get some miles on - on the Mountain.
Sled Safe.

Jan 1 Update |
Posted on 01 Jan 2010 |
There is a good crowd out at the Clubhouse and on the trails again today. Many were out last night doing the New Year's Eve Shelter Shuffle and the trails are rated as quite good. Should only get better. Snow cover is minimal in the Hillsborough and Riverside-Albert areas. Any trails across boggy / wet areas are not operational. We need more cold and more snowcover to build ice roads.
There is precipitation forecast every day for the next five days. It won't all be snow but we can expect to really get the season started. Friday 2PM Radar shows the much anticipated New Years Storm is moving into Albert County!
We are trying to get regular clarification on the harvest plans of JDI so we can get our Provincial Trail operational as soon as possible. They are out there until at least the middle of January. If you have any contacts or info please forward through the Board of Directors or info@senbsa.com

Logging operation not stopping at Stop signs at Windfarm Road crossings !
Clubhouse parking is plowed and Joanne is open New Years Day.

Dec 29 Update |
Posted on 29 Dec 2009 |
We have snow. Probably another 10 to 15 cms. We will shortly have some trails .... well, the plan is for Thursday to get the top of Caledonia Mt opened and invite everybody in the Maritimes to try the Mountain and Hillsborough area for New Years. Plan is to have 34 South of Nixon Rd groomed thru to New Ireland. A little road running might get you to Goshen, Fundy, and Adairs. But the big deal is to get all the Club Trails open for your sledding pleasure.
Club 20 Clubhouse will be stocked with food, beverage, and Preventative Maintenance (fuel). Big Screen and Kareoke Machine available as well!
There is no frozen ground under us but the Highlands have a stiff mix underfoot that will just have to do - at least for New Years.
It has been snowing since late last night and it is just starting to slow down at 6PM Tuesday. This is another bomb that is just rotating over the SE quadrant of the Province. Temps are heading to -15 tonight.
And by the way, the long range forecast is for a real snowstorm Saturday Night. Might finally stretch the trail North next week.

Clubhouse Opening - New Years Weekend |
Posted on 28 Dec 2009 |
Joanne will have the Clubhouse Kitchen open for New Year's weekend.
Fri 12 to 10, Sat 12-10, Sun 12-8
There is some snow to play with and the Clubhouse is a great place to base some short early season trips from. Mother Nature and the resource companies in the area are not helping us to get the long distance interconnections opened till later in January so maybe you can get your buddies out for a short trip and a little taste of trail maintenance ...
Good food, check out the Big Screen, and enjoy a beverage when you are done. See you on the Mountain!

Dec 27/28 Update |
Posted on 27 Dec 2009 |
Trails have an impressive amount of snow base on the higher
elevations. Caledonia Mt has a ton of snow and the rocks seem to be
buried for good. It is rough and ungroomed but FUN. There has been
very little done with the groomers... we are waiting for cold weather.
One machine out today and covered about 20km of 34 and Heartattack /
Rosevale. Irving is plowing Kent Rd and New Ireland ... if you can
get to Teahans Corner the Shepody Road and most trails to Adair's are
supposed to be good. There are washouts and drainage problems in many
areas. It is pouring rain right now and has been raining since about
6:30PM. It won't hurt the trails except for those washouts.

Dec 25 Update |
Posted on 25 Dec 2009 |
The trails are tightening up. The cold temps and snow at the highest levels of the Highlands have got pretty good ground cover on the trails. There is considerable running water in ditches and drainage areas. The Mountain can pick up one or two cms per day of lake effect snow in conditions that we are currently seeing.
The bad news is trees, limbs, branches and face slappers have all been brought down by the heavy sticky snow.
Play safe.

Dec 24 Update |
Posted on 24 Dec 2009 |
Mother Nature has not been kind to us this week. We WERE very close to being able to start operations on the Mountain but have received nothing but rain and drizzle for the last three days while areas to the west received good amounts of snow. Guess it's up to Santa tonight to bring us a freeze-up and then some snow for the first of the year. Merry Xmas to all our sledders!

Trail News |
Posted on 20 Dec 2009 |
Representatives of the Club have had meetings recently with various parties who have winter activities planned on and around our trail system.
We are currently aware of four logging operations that will cause us to reroute.
We are currently aware of Windfarm expansion plans that will impact us in at least 2 new areas.
There are some private forestry machines in the woods that we are making inquiries about as well.
The trail committee is actively planning reroutes and detours and will try to keep you advised on the website as well as on the maps at the Clubhouse. You can report any news you know to be factual to the Board or your district trail committee members or info@senbsa.com

Dec 20 Update |
Posted on 20 Dec 2009 |
There were at least 40 sleds through the Clubhouse area late Saturday reporting surprisingly good sledding. Now that means careful navigation through obstacle courses on top of a big rocky hill - NOT high speed trail riding that everyone is looking forward to. Depending on the results of this next weather system ( Snow - Go ... Rain - No) the groomers will be able to start working the Highlands into shape. There is not enough snow to run the drags as they are guaranteed to turn up rocks into your path. While you are out there getting your first run in, carefully try to widen the track of the guy in front of you. This will help freeze the base for the groomers to run on and give us better trails sooner. A frozen 18" patch down the center of a trail corridor does not help much so think "Wide Track !"
|
Dec 19 Update |
Posted on 18 Dec 2009 |
We appear to be on the verge of something good. There is ground cover and a couple of wet storms have caused the snow to crust up. We would be much better off if the ground had frozen before this stretch of cold weather but we will work with what Mother gives us. There is NOT enough yet to use without ruining your sled or the groomers but 20 cm of snow will have us opening trails. There have been a handful of sleds seen at the Clubhouse but no one has claimed the trails are usable. Snow dance for Christmas please.

Recruiting 'Cause It's Coming .... |
Posted on 14 Oct 2009 |
Lot's of big plans for the upcoming winter and the Grooming Committee is out collecting names of interested and qualified people to help out with the hard part of the job. We are always interested in having more help for the equipment mechanical and maintenance functions as well as training new groomer operators. If you think you are cut out for any of these functions, contact Mike at 862-9399, email info@senbsa.com, or contact a member of the Exec. Winter is on her way.
